First, I want to apologize for the wonky formatting in the Amazon email yesterday. Something is a little fakakta in Substack editor’s bullet pointing for me, and I’m hopeful they’ll resolve it soon.
I also know I promised a regular newsletter yesterday as well, but there’s good reason I didn’t make it happen before EOD. The lovely folks at Substack asked me to join their growth incubator classes, and obvi I dragged Aly Walansky along for the ride too. We spent a good deal of the AM meeting other Substack success stories from around the globe— it was neat! We’ll be learning and growing together for the rest of February, so hopefully we’ll have some tangible info and ideas to put into motion.
In the interest of brevity and hopping to it, here we go!
Work:
Reader’s Digest: Last batch and final updates to our RD.com Presidents’ Day weekend sales guide. Looking specifically for electronics (think TVs, audio equipment, phones, etc) and homewares (towels, bedding, etc) now. Closing this out for the final time today! Reminder: Skimlinks or major retailers. bryce@theluxuryspot.com
Taste of Home: The best food dehydrators! Pitch me your best — we love major retailer links (Walmart, Target, Amazon, Wayfair) but will happily consider smaller DTC websites as well so long as they’re affiliate-ready. Need to gather info by EOW. bryce@theluxuryspot.com
Jobs:
Push The Envelope PR is hiring an account exec. The team is nice and their clients seem fun.
WWD is hiring a new commerce editor, specifically in the beauty and fashion realms.
Westchester Magazine is searching for a new digital editor. It’s a Westchester, New York role, not any of the other Westchesters.
Important thoughts I wanted to share:
As always, I’m THRILLED to share job listings here for the betterment of our entire community. That said, a few of us on the writing side noticed a weird thing where we get copy/paste job listings sent to several of us. If Aly, myself, and other writers are all posting the same job in a newsletter on the same day… we become echo chambers. That’s not really fair to any of us, especially since we do our best to provide you with unique content that serves you in different ways. We have a significant degree of overlap in the communities we have built and want to give each person the respect they deserve by offering fresh takes. I won’t speak for the others, but I’ll say this: if you have a job listing out with one of the other gals and for some reason it doesn’t pan out and you still have the position open after a week or two, I’ll repost. I don’t want to post all the same content on the same day though, ever. In magazine world, that’s not right, and the same should apply to newsletter life. So, please keep sending those listings + keep in mind we’re all individual humans and it’s nice to address us by names and not receive copy/pastes.
In super fun news, the lovely team over at Durée & Company asked me to write about what affiliate-forward content means in 2022. So I blogged for them with some specifics and I hope you’ll find it useful! You can see that story here.
That’s it for now! Will send the Skimlinks-specific roundup of trending products today.
