It's a big week for shopping eds!
Have I been a wee bit quieter than usual? Sorry about that! I’m knee-deep in Prime Day run-up content and all the associated competing sales days that happen surrounding Amazon’s sales bonanza. Why? Because Amazon started conditioning the human brain to expect massive sales each summer in 2015, and now we all do… and people are ready to SHOP. But it’s more than just that. People also know the economy is quickly turning into a dumpster fire (did we see this morning’s core numbers?), so they’re looking for price reductions and steals before the wells run dry this fall. And they will. We’re already at drippity-drop-drop pace instead of the preferred heavy stream.
The next rate hike is coming in a matter of days (FOMC meets directly after Prime Day, lol, to discuss either a 50 or 75 bps hike and that’ll send ripples of WTF throughout the land and solidify recession status). I’ve been saying it for a few weeks… now’s the time to clear your inventory. Don’t wait for a brighter tomorrow. Tomorrow is today unless you’re willing to wait till the end of 2023. Otherwise, buckle up for a bumpy ride till early-ish 2024 when rates stabilize and our GDP seems to swing back a tiny bit. But seriously, 2025 is gonna be our year! So good.
All that being said, let’s move on to some proactive work-related things to get us all some mentions, jobs, and love to stay on top of things!
Need pitches:
Reader’s Digest, Taste of Home, Family Handyman: Walmart is running their own massive sales event, Deals for Days, to compete with Prime Day. SEND ME ALL YOUR BEST DEALS! We love most categories (home, beauty, wellness, fashion, pets, gadgets, tech, etc) and want your most impressive discounts for this series of stories. While RD will focus on a general best-of list, FHM and TOH will be more audience-specific. bryce@theluxuryspot.com
