Musings/jobs combined today:
I always post my job listings totally free! They’re a service to our entire community because I love to see everyone gainfully employed and eatin’ good.
That said, I only publish unique content here. I won’t publish what you’ve already sent to several other newsletters—not because their newsletters aren’t wonderful, but I have a few important objectives here:
To serve you, the reader, with content that can’t be found elsewhere. That’s why you click “open.” …If I serve the same stuff as everyone else, open rates nose-dive. That’s bad for everyone.
To nail the SEO game. Publishers of all types and sizes don’t love repeating the content of other outlets. It’s not just a pride thing, it’s an actual SEO thing. Publishing and republishing overlapping content and keywords = the demise of inexperienced teams. Also bad for everyone, and an important takeaway for pitching all sorts of outlets whether a wee lil’ newsletter of a major mag.
Sooooo…. if you want me to publish your job listings I happily will for free if you think they’re the best fit for this newsletter with about 10k media industry subscribers. Unfortunately, I’ve had 16!!!! people email me this week along asking for job listings and admitting they had also sent the same ones to at least five other newsletters.
I love you all, but good publishing is good publishing, and I don’t think it’s fair to pit writers against each other. If you already asked someone else to post your job listing, no problem. I can still put it up, but I’m going to charge a fee to make up for the loss of SEO value of each newsletter.
You can ALWAYS post your jobs in Sharing Opps for free as well! The group I started years ago is thriving and private, so SEO doesn’t apply.

Questions on how the new Google algorithm will play out.
Y’all up for another AMA in October? Let me know! Seems like we have a lot of questions out there!
I opened up the referral section, so paid subscribers can send freebie trials to their colleagues and friends. I think it offers each referral a few weeks of access. Paid members have up to 3 freebie referrals each, so use ‘em wisely. Details below.
