Hiya, friends! It’s been a minute—I got back from company HQ up in Toronto a few days ago and am just settling back into the usual workflow in the middle of Mother’s, Father’s and graduation day seasons so there’s plenty to work on.
Keeping the main part of the newsletter short and sweet because I have so many Affiliate Tribe requests that the bulk of the energy is going there. And in an exciting first, we’ll reverse engineer why this product got a placement vs another award-winning product (and the publicists are not thrilled).
What I’m working on now/would love pitches:
Send all to bryce.gruber@stjoseph.com …and, as always, bonus points for brands great about social media shares!
Today’s Parent: Pitch me your best postpartum, maternity and mom-friendly robes! Must be affiliate-ready, Amazon preferred if possible.
Today’s Parent: Amazon-ready gifts for moms (please, I speak for every mom when I say no anti-aging creams or Windex for this one).
Today’s Parent: Our 3x weekly newsletter goes out to tens of thousands of parents and we always include must-read books for caregivers and little ones. Have one that should be included? Tell me about it + send the Amazon link.
FASHION Magazine: Affiliate-ready linen dresses every woman will want to wear this summer.
FASHION Magazine: Best luggage/travel gear for men (with the ratings to prove it!).
Hello! Magazine: Top-rated flare leggings, ideally on Amazon or another affiliate-ready retailer with a great rate (and a direct connection).
Hello! Magazine: Cooling pajamas to beat summer heat, ideally on Amazon.
Note about Hello! shopping content: These stories hit US, Canada and UK audiences collectively, so we strongly prefer widely available brands and retailers.
Jobs:
FASHION Magazine is hiring an Editor in Chief! The print edition is Canada based, though the digital version is widely read across both the US and Canada. The new EIC should be well versed in both markets, though based in the Toronto area. You’ll be working with meeeeeeeeeeee!
The Strategist needs a new SEO editor. New York-based, salary says $75-110k range, but off the record I was told $90-95k is what they’re aiming to pay the right person.
Samsung needs a new publicist. New Jersey-based.
Lyft needs a PR manager. Salary around $120k, New York-based but hybrid.
Fried Frank needs a communications manager. New York, salary $150k-ish, great benefits. The annual holiday party is my fave. Hope you love real estate tawk.
For the Affiliate Tribe:
I had a bunch of really cool subscriber requests roll in this week. The first comes from a PR company many of us know and love. They rep a well-known, genuinely good product that seems to miss out on getting into a bunch of those “best-of” listicles and asked to book a consulting session with me to reverse engineer why this is happening.
Questions include:
Why are they losing out to other brands with less street and science cred
How can they be higher on lists they are included in
What their competitors are doing better
And, because a learning experience is good for everyone, I said I’d break down the basics that are easy to decipher for the entire Affiliate Tribe. I’ll go into the nitty-gritty and more sensitive details with them privately, don’t worry!
