Remember what I said about all the HGGs coming atcha over the next couple of weeks? Wasn’t kidding. I have oodles more I’m working on now and some more things I’d love to share with you.
First, I spent part of the morning chatting with my BFF Aly Walanksy (subscribe to her substack yesterday, friends) and the Mitchell Communications team. It was LOVELY to meet so many of them and do a little consulting work between articles. Writer friends, MC reps Sam’s Club and they’re easy-peasy to work with. If you’re getting pitches from their team, answer them. They’re lovely humans.
Things I’m working on right now:
Family Handyman: Things you’re not buying at Walmart but SHOULD. Because this piece is for Family Handyman I need to head in the direction of rugged handypeople types. So rather than makeup palettes I want to feature your DIY project gear, hammers, electrical stuff, cookware, BBQ things, plants, MiracleGro, etc at great prices that definitely beat competitor pricing (like buy this widget for $20 on walmart.com vs $25 on amazon). On a personal note, if you pitch me gardening items I’ll probably buy ‘em myself. I’m such a sucker for plants. Need pitches Monday 10 am eastern. bryce@theluxuryspot.com
Readers’ Digest: Hostess gifts! Think genuinely helpful, useful, and thoughtful hostess gifts. Ideally $50 and under, but some pricier items will be included. A bottle of wine or a candle seems too… well, overdone. Maybe some neat wine accessory WITH the bottle? Or gorgeous potholders with matching kitchen towels? Air-cleaning houseplants? Baking gear for the hostess who promised Sunday AM scones? MUST BE AFFILIATE LINKS! Hit me by EOD Monday. bryce@theluxuryspot.com
Family Handyman: Home decor pieces that instantly update and improve your home. Ideally pieces under $200, but can be for any room in the house. Lamps, cabinet hardware, rugs, linens, etc. *FOCUS ON 2022 TREND FORECASTING SO STOP PITCHING GRAY MARBLE STUFF OMG.* Need by EOD Monday. bryce@theluxuryspot.com
Finishing GIFTS FOR BOYS and GIFTS FOR GIRLFRIENDS today. You know the drill with affiliate links. TBH, girlfriends is almost at max capacity. The boys guide has a few spots left. Both for RD.com. bryce@theluxuryspot.com
Desperately trying to catch up on emails from my time off/Sukkot celebrations, but I’m wading through.
Some other things you should know:
If we worked together on my fall kitchen decor story for Taste of Home, it’s live :)
And the Swedish Dishcloth explainer piece
Some other writer gal pals who are on substack & may be useful to you: Alice Dubin and Aly Walansky
A tiny lil’ reminder that social shares genuinely mean the world to both the publishers and the writers. Thanks for being great about that.
Till tomorrow! Stay happy and dry, friends!
