Wow, lots to say today, eh? First, going to echo what Aly said in her newsletter today — if anyone, and I mean anyone, is charging you $ for story leads… yikes. That’s unethical and a major problem. Not only should you NOT pay, but you also shouldn’t even subscribe. Don’t touch that scene with a 10-foot pole. Sourcing for stories is a free family affair that should involve nothing more than a completely free exchange of ideas and information.
Paid offerings should ONLY exist when there’s a field of expertise or understanding that stretches beyond typical writing responsibilities and offers an educational or analytics opportunity. I have had to remove a small handful of people from our trusted, loving Sharing Opps group on Facebook for violating the very basics of journalism (even if our journalism is just sharing the trendiest sneakers), and don’t want to continue down that road. Like the NYC subways, if you see something — say something.
Reminding everyone: I will never, ever charge for story leads or access.
Working on now:

Family Handyman: F’real. None of you rep car mats/floor mats?! What. Is. Going. On. Go out there and pitch that biz! But if you do rep car mats, please pitch meeeeeee. bryce@theluxuryspot.com

Lots of new data today. If you’re new to the newsletter, know that I share these once a week and they offer insights into real-time consumer behavior. That consumer behavior often dictates what you’ll see popping up as story themes in the following 2-4 weeks across major publishers. The rate you see next to the product name is the current commission being offered to top-tier publishers.
